1981 e350 leaded fuel only?

I have added lead additive to my 81 e350 since I bought it, someone put, "leaded fuel only" on the dash by the gas gauge and I have never run without it but I have a hard time believing that this is true but the fuel tank inlet is large though someone may have dug out the inner metal. The van has two tanks and the rear is locked and disconnected since the fuel valve is missing so I don't know the size of the tank inlet. I wish I could get a valve to hook back up the rear tank. Van uses alot of fuel and 15 gallons don't go real far. I have another issue with wiring if you search my posts. Anyone have an idea how I could tell what heads I have on the engine so I can tell if I can run unleaded fuel without damage? Steve

So I guess no one here has any idea about what engines they put in these models? Huh>

I always used Unleaded in my 81 E100 Inline/300. Never had any problems. Both my Chilton and Haynes say "unleaded" for this year too. Leaded was used in vehicles before the early 70s. After that, Unleaded.

Engines after 1975 were designed to run on unleaded.

The lead was used as an octane booster, today we use safer and better ways to do the same thing. Any fuel of the proper octane will be just fine.

You should find out, by taking the numbers off the heads, what engine you have in the van. A previous owner may have swapped in a early 70s engine.

leaded?

5.8 windser, where do I look on the head and what numbers would be leaded fuel only? Also any idea where the "towing relay" is? I have looked everywhere for this thing, bought it at Autozone and they say it has one somewhere. Steve

If it was not ordered with "towing package" from the factory it probably does not have have the relay your looking for.
