CAN is Controller Area Network and not necessarily diesel compatible. CAN and Diesel have nothing to do with each other, it's just the way the components communicate with each other. For a diesel, you will need to find out if it can read diesel.
Can I just use this software to monitor the engine and scan codes and install tunes in my truck? Any other tips you have about this would be great. Sean

CAN is simply a new communications network standard whose use is mandated on ALL US-market vehicles by 2008 (iirc). Ford started using it on 04 MY vehicles.
That means that your older scan tools and readers are worthless if you buy an 04 or newer Ford unless you can get an upgrade for it.
