I am looking at buying a lift for my garage. I mainly plan on useing it for the cars but the X will end up on it from time to time. So what does this beast weigh ? The lifts I am looking at seem to be close in price up to 9,000 lbs capable then the price jumps when you go to 10,000 lbs capacity.
For a stock Ex (i.e. no lifts or large tires or large aftermarket front/rear bumpers, massive stereo speakers or the like)...9000# should be sufficient.
The GVWR of our Ex's is either 8900# for V10 or 9200# for PSD. That means the overall chassis is only rated for that when loaded up with people, gear, tongue weight AND aftermarket stuff...
My Ex as loaded for camping with family, fuel and gear tips the scales at 8000#'s. Drop my tongue weight on the rear and apply WD and I'm at 9000#'s. My Ex is a V10...add ~600#'s for a PSD and you are easily at 8600#'s.
When you use your lift to lift your Ex...you obviously won't have tongue weight on your Ex...so even a PSD in mostly stock form is under 9000#'s
So unless you have all kinds of aftermarket stuff on your Ex like some of the impressive Ex's in this forum...a 9000# lift should be sufficient...
Yeah, I think you're good with a 9000# lift as well. When we were returning from Gatlinburg I pulled on the scales and even with my 7700# TT attached, my X axle weights only added up to 9100 and I had myself (237#) my wife (she ain't tellin), 8 y/o (~50#), 2 y/o (~35#) and pug (~25#). My TT probably added another 700#... so, yeah, I'd say you'll be just fine.
For the record:
Steer axle = 3640
Drive axle = 5460
Trailer axle = 7040
GCW = 16140 (which puts me pretty close to the Max GCWR of 17,000#)
