Hey just a word of caution to anybody installing a HPOP especially for those who havn't done it before. In many instructions it does not tell you to remove the resevoir. I believe removing the resevoir is a good plan because you can visually make sure the pump gear is installed correctly. My buddy just put a new pump in his OBS and when I asked him how much of a pain it was to torque the bolt down(because the motor will spin while torquing it down) he said it wasn't a pain. He said the motor didn't turn. Then he told me it wouldn't start. so I went over there and messed with it and found that the gear was torqued down but not seated properly. Long story short, pump gear is trashed and hopefully the cam gear is ok. So if you aboslutely refuse to pull off the resevoir, remember that its a helical cut gear, you have to twist it while sliding it onto the pump. and also remember that you will have to hold themotor from turning while torquing it down. This could be a very costly mistake.

Yeah, it's only 5 bolts that are so easy to get at. But dang, the main reason you wanna remove it, is to get that old oil out. Uck, wouldnt wanna drive around with black oil in my engine!

My oil is black within seconds of an oil change Blackstone always finds soot in my oil. . . I don't know why. . .

Reason: because
Timmy, I can see your point. But I'd rather not do it that way. I've done a ton of them with no issues. To me, that's just another seal to worry about. But on the other side, if you've never seen inside there it would be time well spent. Good post.
Oh yeah, if your buddy needs a gear, I have spares. PM me.
