Talking just a thought..

i was thinkin on my way home from six flags yesterday and i came to the conclusion that im glad i did not get a 1/2 ton for many reasons and i think its pretty stupid for people to say oh juust get a 1/2 ton you dont need a diesel but thats dumb because the diesel gets 2-3 mpg better on the freeway then my brother 5.4 f150 and when i tow i get 13 mpg which is 5 mpg better then my old 05 chevy 2500 hd 6.0 and my dads hemi soo i love my truck just thought id say that lol not to mention the ease of towing with it up hills.and thanks to you guys for the advise on the dp and shift kit ...

Yep. Most non-diesel folks I've talked with just don't understand, and what's even worse, they don't seem to even be interested in trying to understand. What really gets my goat, though, is the way they look at you like you're either from Mars or just flat out lying when you start talking about how diesels are more efficient than gassers.

I built an 04 F150 5.4l instead of a diesel because people ( who know NOTHING about diesels) talked me out of it. A little over a year later I didn't like it and still wanted a diesel, traded it in on my 02 7.3. At that point I didn't know the diff between the 6.0 and 7.3. Thank God I got the 7.3.

My financial limitations ended up dictating that issue for me, but I was actually (and fortunately) in the exact same position regarding knowledge about the two engines. I will, though, if I can swing it, see if I can find an '05 Excursion with the 6.0L - assuming I can ever get my '02 with teh V10 sold - but I won't consider anything older for the 6.0L engine.

I get it all the time at work, "man, that must eat up gas" HELLO, ITS A DIESEL. I get better fuel mileage than most of their vehicles.

There are some ex's with 7.3's for sale out there too... I recently bought my '02 7.3 for 10k, local deal discovered chasing an ebay ad. The 6.0's are probably ok as long as you don't pull them hard and often. Dad has a 6.0 in a f350 cc dually that rarely sees extreme weight, its not had major issues at all, just a couple minor ones.

This is probably a universal issue with diesel owners. I even had one guy call me a liar one time. I had purchased the truck about 2 months before and met up with some friends at a bar. They were all drooling over my truck and I had one guy pipe up "I'd never want that big piece of crap, it gets horrible mileage". I gave him a brief lesson on diesel technology, higher compression, and how it works, and let him know what kind of mileage I was getting. He huffed and puffed and called me a liar and left.

I have given the diesel speech many times, and Pete is right, most people look at you like you're from Mars. Same thing happens when I talk about biodiesel and WVO.

I also was unaware of the differences between the 6.0 and the 7.3 when I bought the truck, and didn't really learn the difference until i found this site. But actually my brother (a mechanic) warned me to stay away from '03 and newer Powerstrokes so he was probably guiding me away from the 6.0's.

Yep, I don't pipe up much here (lack of intelligence, mostly), but because of you all, I know I didn't want a 6.0 at all (didn't know they undorked the 6.0 by 2005). Some folks that I know do tow 5ers with their 1/2 ton, and are sold that they get as good of milage as a diesel and much better when not towing. Silly rabbits....

Look at the life of a diesel v/s a gas engine, no comparison... Also look at the resale value.

I am in the same position as you guys, not knowing the difference between the 7.3 and 6.0 when I bought my truck in 00'.

its like talkin to my dad he thinks diesels are still sloow and stinky lol from 1970 or somthing... he still belives my truck wont beat his truck in a race lol i just laugh. he just wont budge on his thought that a diesel could be faster then a gasser!! its kinda funny and agravating at the same time.. and my brother is on the same boat as my dad with his gasser f150 they dont understand why a chip on a gasser does nothing and on a diesel alot but oh well.. i know the differnce

I wish I could run bio diesel to have a dog in that hunt, but my truck only like straight #2. My brothers f-150 on the same trip I take with my truck gets an average of 13MPG, my truck gets an average of 15mpg on the same road, same time of year at the same speed. Mine is lifted, and usually has more weight in the bed also. Makes ya wonder. I would trade my truck in a heartbeat for an 05-07 6L. They are just insane in the power department with little mods compared to our 7.3L. I would not worry one bit about it either. Just my opinion.

i hate all those people who knock diesels and say gas is better than diesel heres my argument how come a diesel jetta gets better fuel economy on a BAD DAY compared to the gay **** prius hybrid on a good day(40-45jetta bad day compared to 40for the prius on a good day)and you notice how those gassers complain about their 10-15 mpg while they say this thing has ballz when they could say that and get about 15-18 with a ford truck with the 7.3 and the DP TUNER im done ranting

The only thing I have to haul with the Ex is me and my family. I just have to get rid of that darned (I mean wonderful) V10 before I can drop the coin on another diesel right now.
