thanks car crafter and i really like the look of your truck, really clean, smells like french fries Im not sure my cousin is worried about rotating tires. He spends a lot of time on the road and this truck would mainly see weekend duty when its not parked in the garage. He wants to hand it down to his son(who isnt 1 yet) For the mileage it will see i dont think the rotation issue would be a problem but i will definitely mention it to him.

Even if this were my truck i wouldnt let the opinions of someone else change the direction of it. Personally i have 5 cars and 5 motorcycles and only 2 out of the bunch are stock(the ones my wife drives). Thats the beauty of owning a vehicle, you can do whatever you want with it.

oh and danger dave, i think 12bars are gay why would anyone ride a bike on 1 wheel when its made with 2.

Being from the L.A. area, I think the large diameter, low profile wheel/tire combo gives the vehicle the "ghetto" look. Just my 2 cents...

Must be one huge getto, many come out of the factory with 18 and 19 inch wheels.....!!!!!!! If the car or truck is done in a manner to compliment the wheels and tires, they look good.

That's my point. They belong on NEW CARS AND TRUCKS.
Also, the brake systems on the newer cars with the larger diameter wheels are designed for the larger rotating mass.

they can look good, and they can look bad. You cant just throw big rims on an old truck and expect it to look right for sure. And they have to be the right rims as well. We dont want it to look out of place like a Gbody with 24s. This truck with all the body seams filled, trim deleted etc i think will look clean, but you never know until you try.

Agreed. To each his own.
All I'm saying is that, around L.A., it's common place to see $1200 worth of cookie cutter style chrome 22's on a $400 car. Not usually seen on muscle cars or 60's/70's vehicles. More commonly seen in the hood or barrio.

Talk about stereotyping!!!! Guess things must be different in LA...around here I see the big wheels, short sidewalls on most anything and everything....some are done right and look good, some are just bolt on's and look like it....

Anyway, point is the guy was asking about a combination of wheel sizes that would accomplish the look he wants for a truck.... Not an opinion poll on what should be on it..... If you don't have some positive input for the guy's thread is there really any need to jump in and say it looks "gay" or suggest that it is something that only blacks and Mexicans would do????? Geez guys, wake up!!!!! Rednecks and bigots went out of style years ago!!!!! If you don't like the look, then deal with it. But don't come around putting down the people who want to do something with their pickups besides tow trailers and haul hay bales!!!!!!

PS--the SIZE of the rotating mass is a mute point...The WEIGHT of the rotating mass is the consideration. The new alloy wheels and low profile tires are considerably lighter then the steel wheels, hubcaps, and bias ply tires the trucks came out with. If anything, the lighter weight of the wheel and tire would be improved, though negligibly... Tire contact face and tread pattern is far more influential on braking power then weight.... Far as that goes, why would the rotating mass SIZE be of any concern???? or if it is, the taller wheels and low profile tires would project a smaller overall circumference then the origianal tires and wheels the truck came with. Rotating mass is a weight consideration, not size.......

Sharp looking wheels!!!! Maybe if the black portion were done in the body color of the truck, they'd look even better!!!!! Hard to go wrong with such a classic looking wheel.

thanks dave, the body will be black just like the wheels I showed them to my cousin and he really likes them, now i just have to find out lug pattern, wheel width and backspacing etc. Im going to try and take the truck by the body shop monday or tuesday. They told me they could finish what i started in under 2 weeks so that will be cool because my progress is really slow! I think those wheels will look better than an all chrome setup personally.

Im still digging through pages of wheels though so i may find something better, but it needs to have that 60s 70s feel to it.

Thanks for the input.

also i was looking into tires. found some 255/45 x 20 which puts the OD at 29" just under the stock tires. ive got a good friend who is a graphic designer, im going to get him to do a pic of the truck with these rims to scale and see how things look.

This ain't no pissing contest. I'm just stating facts. I'm not a racist or a bigot. You've obviously never been to L.A. Stereotypes (noun; something conforming to a fixed or general pattern) are based on facts. And, the larger the diameter of a rotating mass, as well as the weight, the more friction it takes to alter it's direction. It's called physics. Weight as well as diameter both have an effect on the moments of inertia (rotational mass). The farther something is from the center of rotation the more power it takes to start and stop it. Weight is also an effecting factor. Not only does a larger diameter wheel or heavier wheel take more to stop, it also takes more to get it moving.
BTW, shift1313, nice looking wheel

i just made this pic really quick. the rims are 20s, tires are 285/50x20 which puts the tires OD at about 31" which would be slightly larger than the stock tire.

of course there is no real scale but i tried to scale things as close to actual as possible. I dont know how it will look with stock lift. Ill have to mull this over a bit.

also i found those same rims from american racing with shelby cobra center caps, they come in 17,18,19,20,22 and i think 24 for some odd reason.
