Building a 460

I am getting ready to build a 460 for my truck. It will be used mainly for truck pulling, but I would like to drive it on the road sometimes. I am looking at a 514 stroker kit. I am going to take the block to get bored tomorrow, and wait to see how much it needs bored to clean up before I order the kit. Does anyone have ant experience with this kit? What compression ratio should I try for to run 92 octane? What would be a good cam? I have to keep the cast heads, mine are the d3ve. And I would like to stay around 5-6000 rpms.

Or do you guys have any better suggestions? I have built motors before but this is my first hi performance motor build.

depending on what stroker company you go with. i have an eagle crank, esp H beam rods, JE pistons kit. I think the scat kit is good too. some machine shops may want the pistons first before they'll bore. Most of the kits will tell you what compression ratio they'll make with what cc heads. D3VE's are what? 92cc or 95cc, something like that. you'll have to decide what fuel you're willing to pay for to choose your compression ratio.

with cast iron heads, 9:1 would be pretty safe with 92 octane. you might be able to 9.5:1 as long as you aren't doing any heavy towing and have a longer duration cam to bleed off some cylinder pressure.

if you decide on going to aluminum heads, you can get away with 9.5:1 no problem, and 10:1 is possibel also. the aluminum dissapates heat quicker, so you usually can get away with a little higher compression.

if you are going to be on the cusp of high compression you can run a bit wider Lobe separation angle to lower your cranking compression, iron or aluminum. with iron its usually in the 108-110 LSA and with aluminum you can run 110-112 LSA which will make you maybe make a touch less HP being wider but will keep your power curve wider. best bet is to phone your favorite cam company and they'll steer you where you wanna go.
