What stands out from a bone stock 460 and an interceptor or cobra jet motor. I have a motor that i want to build up but im not sure what to do and i heard that these motors were indestructable and would like to maybe build something like that. I also need to know if the motor in my 1977 truck is to far gone. Its been bored .060 over and im not sure if this is to much or not. any tips would be great... im trying to build a chevy killer. all my friends are chevy guys and need to be put in their places
As far as your block being gone - it depends. Some 385-series blocks can be bored .080 with no problem, but you need to have the cylinder walls sonic checked to make sure there's enough material left to do it reliably.
As far as the Chevy killer goes, well.... it gets back to the old saying of "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?"
This motor is going into a 1977 dump truck. Its going to have to perform well with a full load and a trailer behind it. What im pretty much doing is building a dream truck dump truck into one. Its on a 1977 f250/350 frame with 4 speed 4x4 driveline. I need to have some power but also some reliability. I heard the cobra jet motors were great and was interested in what it would take to obtain this

Brad
actually that saying is how fast can you afford to go.
As far as your question of indestructable the cj, and interceptor engines aren't anymore indestructable than any other 429/460 they use the same block crank and rods just different cyl heads as already mentioned. the SCJ might be considered a little more indestructable because they came with 4 bolt main blocks (some CJ's came with them too but it is not a gaurentee) Any 2 bolt 385 series block will handle a serious amount of HP, trust me. The heads on your 77 460 would be a good choice for the type of build your talking about, and if your block isn't good enough to go .080 then 460 blocks are a dime a dozen in reality in most parts of the country, just watch if you decide to replace your block and use your crank that you don't get a D9TE block as the early cranks won't fit. but you can get a complete D9TE short block (79 and later) but finding a flywheel will be your major concern as the one on your early block won't work.
For a serious torque monster, chebbie killer look into a stroker, 4.3" stroke .030 over bore is 521cid and with the D3VE heads with some good port work, the right cam and intake and that sucker will pull mountains down to cover the chebbies up with.
