tranny trouble

'95 F350 (actually a E350, but it should be the same transmission) Mostly works great, but recently it has decided to not shift into 2nd, on occasion. Have to rev pretty high, or shift back into neutral, then drive and it will shift. This only happens once in a while, and it doesn't matter if the fluid is hot or cold. Starting to also feel a little slippage.

Any ideas? I'm, going to start with a fluid change and flush. Anything I should add prior to getting it changed?

We're assuming this is an E4OD?
you are not losing fluid?
fluid is still red not Dark red or black?
i'm sure i've read on here somewhere that the torque converters were not that good on e4's .. i know i've replaced mine, albeit its a diesel

yes...E4OD and the fluid looks good. a bad torque converter would have a more consistent problem. This recent and intermittent. Just happens when it feels like. More like a sticking valve.

Have you pulled any codes? And new fluid and filter is a good place to start anyway.

You still might have codes. New fluid & filter is a good place to start. If you still have problems, then it's probably time for a trip to a good tranny shop (i.e. not aamco).

Check the speed sensor on the rear end it may have metal on it, if it is not working the computer wont know how fast you are going and wont upshift.

If there is alot of metal on it, clean it off, reinstall it and get ready for rear end problems.
