Thanks for the PM Miles.. I think I have one really really good Sponsor in the works right now. I got this as part of an e-mail tonight.
"Let's discuss sponsorship further. Maybe I can use the labor helping you to make the suspension, and discounts on other work you may need, as part of a sponsorship deal. Given your performance this year and the fact that you're at the track alot, I'd love to get my name on the truck and help you out."
The guy who owns the company is a part time tech guy at bandimere. I was talking to him tonight about building some suspension components for the f-100, and in the middle of talking about the design he told me i could help out with building the parts and welding, etc. As soon as he told me that i was pretty happy because i like building my own stuff and if its something i cant do i like to be there to see how it is done. Then i mentioned that i was beginning to look for sponsors for my new truck
I would be very very stoked and impressed with his shop sponsorship. They do (in my opinion) some of the best custom fab work around. Hopefully if it works out, i will be out there showing other racers that you dont need a full blown race car to utilize the services some of these "racecar" shops provide, and that they offer parts and services for "tough" street cars aswell.
After i talk to him some more ill post a link up for the company so you can check out some of their work.
hey Miles, the forums tell me that you are setup not to accept PM's, might want to check into that, i have tried sending you 3 of them now with no luck.
I het into alot of trouble here too, most, actually all, of it seems to be related to the forum moderator Monsterbaby hahaha, that guy is a douche.
But yes, that was from the shop you mentioned in PM. His work is very impressive, and not only is he knowledgeable, but his entire staff is also, and they are all very skilled and quality / customer oriented.
I like the idea i had of having sponsor decals and logos actually painted onto my truck ( by a local freehand painter) rather than jsut throwing stickers on. I am not a huge fan of stickers, and painted on company names adds a little of a nostalgic vintage look , which is a look i really like, and is eye catching.
I checked out their website again and really wish I could get them to build some headers. I also talked to them at Pinks and they all seemed like cool guys. We are planning on re-painting the truck next year and I like the idea of painting the decals on.
I got ahold of comp cams and pro systems carbs today to try to figure out what carb to get with the new cam that I want to order. The cam is massive and should wake the 514 up a lot. So I have now gone from new headers and carb to headers, carb, cam, lifters, pushrods and water pump. there is also a nice used flying toilet on ebay for $500 that I am keeping an eye on.
I have heard really really good things about the flying toilets... every one who i have talked to who runs one swears by them. From what i have noticed (and read) changes in the DA do not effect the flying toilets and alcohol as much as petro based fuels (only about 10% the effect on ET---- More consistent), but changes in humidity have a big effect on alcohol.
Their shop is amazing.. One of my friends is going to begin working there next month i believe, doing headers and roll cages. I like the idea of fully mandrel bent headers over typical custom headers which are cut, pieced together, and welded from mandrel bent pipes... But, until i get into some decent money, ill be sticking with my $175 out of the catalog headers...
And, have you ever had your engine on a dyno, if so , what numbers did oyu get from it?
The cam will be something around 265/269@.050, .788 lift, 108 LSA to let the thing breathe a little better with the improved heads.
I am going to go ahead and take the front clip off to redo the brake lines, and the headers. I also have to take the intake off to fix the oil leak so it makes sense to switch the cam then. So I though that if I am already this far I should just pull the motor and have it dyno tuned with either the Pro Systems Dominator or the flying toilet.
Kaase did a lot of cam testing with the P-51's during R&D and before they were released. He did some pulls with the cam I posted above and made a best of 782 HP@6700 with 11.95 compression. With a 272/280@.050, .788 lift, 106 LSA cam he made 807 HP@6600. My engine set up if very similar to his crate test engine except right now my cam is alot smaller at 265/268@.050, ..666 lift, 106 LSA and my compression is 12.7. If I could make anywhere near 800 HP at the flywheel I would be extremely happy.
cam might be a little smaller like 262°/276°@.050" - .727"/.702" lift - 110° separation; 106° intake centerline. I set out to get this thing into the 10's on the motor and I intend to do so this year. It ran an 11.86 last year with 1 3/4 tube headers and a POS carb so I think it is possible. Might have to run at Julesberg to get it done but it is going to happen this year.
