I have a 96 f250 4x4, that I just recently bought, and I pulled the right side apart last night to change the ujoint. I did not notice it at the time I bought it but the previous owner hit something with the front hub cover and cracked it so water got in and dried the grease out so now I need to replace wheel bearings also. My question is, is there a way to take apart the hub body, the big cast aluminum part that slide over the end of the 4x4 shaft. I would like to take it apart and regrease it. I tried earlier, got the snap ring off but there is a washer under that and I can't get the inner barrel/gears to slide up because it looks like the washer is not moving. here is a link to a page that shows the break down, it is part# 16 under the f250 break down 1996 Bronco/F-Series Workshop Manual
Has anyone ever taken this apart and if so have any hints/tips for dissasembly? Or should I just try to squish some grease and oil into it to try and relube it? thanks.
thought the link would show the page I was looking at but it doesn't, you need to scroll down to section 5 click, then section 5.03c click, then to section removal/instalation and click on locking hubs, automatic then scroll down on that page to the f250 break down.
After reading what you said Neal, I called the local dealer and talked to parts guy and he only remembers seeing some maybe white lithium grease in the center. He was pretty sure it is not servicable, so I will get a small tube of the grease and go from there.
