The only issue I had with the switch from gas to diesel was that like the Grinch's heart, all of my tools are 3 sizes too small.
LOL!
It took me about 6 years to finally convince my wife that diesel was the way to go. I wanted a PSD back when I bought my old 95 gasser, trouble then was they were all out of our price range anyways but she wasn't buying into my argument. When we first started talking about selling it, I started dinging real hard on why a PSD would be better than a gasser and lo and behold, I PREVAILED! She rags on me any time I have to work on it ("this dang thing sure costs a lot of money with the fancy exhaust and gauges and 10 gallon oil changes bla bla bla...") but I think at least a small amount of it is in fun
I was just reading a peeing contest thread on a snowmobile forum where guys are trying to convince the OP that a 1/2 ton is plenty sufficient for towing an enclosed 4 place snowmobile trailer loaded (probably 7500 lbs or so weight) and I just had to roll my eyes... I never have and never will own a stupid little 1/2 ton... why flog a miniature donkey trying to make it do what a mule can do effortlessly?
I'm a proud owner of a noisy, stinky, black smoke blowin' diesel and I don't think I'll ever own another gasser truck again.
Hate to say this, but you should not have a major problem pulling a 4 place snowy trailer even if it was one of the best ones, with every option, with 4 sleds+ gear. People snowmobile 4 months tops out of the year, going every weekend, is it worth it to some people to go out and drive an HD truck during the weekdays, and the summer months? Most of them are saying no, get the half ton, and yes it will pull it fine, just not as well as an HD truck. Thats why people would be saying get the 1/2, price, and ride quality come into play a lot of the time. If all that person needs a truck for is hauling a snowmobile trailer on the weekends and hauls nothing else, I would have said 1/2 ton hands down.
I was lucky enough to have an honest salesman (no laughing here) warn me away from the 2003-4 model years. Then finances alone dictated an older model. So glad I ended up with the 7.3 also. And my wife still complains sum about the money put into it so far. I just keep saying "I love my truck"! lol
Edit: I did end up buying from a private party instead but did appreciate his advise.
When I started looking for a diesel I almost built an 03 Cew black cummins 6 speed. Sweet truck but over $600 for a payment, I told him to keep it. I love the 7.3, just wish Ford or Internatanal didn't cheep out on things. Like PMR's, cheep ******.

I hate 1/2 tons... always have always will. So many guys go buy a 1/2 ton because it rides better or whatever then have to invest big in air bags, overloads, Timbrens, load leveling hitches etc. so they aren't pointed at the sky going down the road. I'll NEVER own less than a 3/4 ton truck, I don't care how much more they cost to buy or own.
This is probably a universal issue with diesel owners. I even had one guy call me a liar one time. I had purchased the truck about 2 months before and met up with some friends at a bar. They were all drooling over my truck and I had one guy pipe up "I'd never want that big piece of crap, it gets horrible mileage". I gave him a brief lesson on diesel technology, higher compression, and how it works, and let him know what kind of mileage I was getting. He huffed and puffed and called me a liar and left.
I have given the diesel speech many times, and Pete is right, most people look at you like you're from Mars. Same thing happens when I talk about biodiesel and WVO.
I also was unaware of the differences between the 6.0 and the 7.3 when I bought the truck, and didn't really learn the difference until i found this site. But actually my brother (a mechanic) warned me to stay away from '03 and newer Powerstrokes so he was probably guiding me away from the 6.0's.
My wife tells me storys of when she rants off on guys she worked with about why diesels are better then gasers, and the differances between the two. She said on how they guys look at her funny wondering how she knows thats stuff. So my wife DOES listion to me at times.

John... I have to disagree with you. The only two things I've ever really hauled with my truck in the nearly two years I've owned it is...
1) the '85 F150 I drove to the lot to get the PSD on day 1, and
2) a one ton pallet of sod just a couple weeks ago
No.... now that I think about it, I've also hauled a lot of a** (mine, namely) for nearly 40,000 miles over the past 23 months. This baby is my daily driver, trip machine, and part-time hobby.
My truck is my DD(not currently) but normally is my DD, hobby, etc, also. There is a difference between want and need. I haul sometimes, but not enough to qualify me as needing one. I have no problem if the person wanted a diesel, just to have it, since that is what I did. It sounded like the person asked if he needed a truck that big just to pull the trailer. If the person is thinking the difference between a 3/4ton gas or diesel, the diesel would be my opinion without a doubt, but the difference between a 1/2 and 3/4 ton similarly equipped is quite the price difference and if someone is asking they are more swayed toward the 1/2 ton, or they would just get the 3/4 ton. Honestly I would not own a 1/2 ton either, but I am looking at other peoples point of view in this.
After spending quite a few years in mid-sized gassers I got a fullsize dodge with a auto and the 360.....(JUNK)..... anyways, I had wanted a diesel since before I could (legally) drive. This was back when a turbo was unheard of and most medium duty diesels wouldve made better boat anchors. The day I got my PSD, I had a stupid grine on my face all the way home and I love this truck like a fat kid love cake.
