O.K. my wife was driving the truck today and it started to cut out on the way home, the rpm's would jump and fall from the cut out, it died on her and it took a couple of tries to get it started. Got it home and was going to take it for a test drive to see if I could duplicate it and no start. Drained the fuel from the filter bowl and looked at the filter looks decent for now. Tried to start it again and it started right up and cut out a couple of times and died. It didn't get a CEL when I was messing with it and the wife said no CEL either. I am thinking that it is the CPS, I don't know if it has been changed or not and the dealers are closed now. Am I on the right path here or could it be something else? When it dies it is like the key is shut off.
With the CPS only being a $30 part from Ford, I don't see how it could hurt to change it. If your current CPS is a black one (new ones are gray) you could probably get it changed for free under the recall.
I looked at Guzzles CPS page and found that my truck still has the recall on it. Will the dealer just give me the CPS or will I have to bring in the truck? I might try removing the old one and bring in the registration with the old CPS and see if they will swap it out so I don't have to attempt to drive it to them. Has anyone done this before?
No, the dealer will want to do the work them self. They won't just swap out the part and let you do the labor.
I did call a couple of dealers and they wanted me to bring the truck in so I just got a new CPS and that seems to have fixed the problem. I am going to call the dealer that I bought the truck from and see if they will give me a new CPS since the recall should have been done when I bought the truck. Bought the truck in late Feb early March of this year and the recall was from Dec of last. It is worth a shot anywhay. Thanks again everyone for your input on this. My truck is now back to normal.
