clicking noise from rear of vehicle

I have a clicking noise coming from the rear of my 2000 EXPY. It started while on my way home yesterday from the Adirondaks in NY to my home in Pa. It is speed variable and my first inclination is that it has something to do with the rear diff. I changed the diff lube and added the additive for the limited slip but the noise is still present. It seems to speed up when I take a right hand turn and slow for a left. Another thougth I had was that it could be the parking brake pads. The parking break doesn't function and I thought the noise could be from excessive wear. If you have any ideas please let me know. thanks fitzy67

Your information is very detailed, and points to the left rear wheel. Jack up the rear axle, place it on jack stands, and check out the left rear. Look for loose hardware or a grooved rotor.

thanks Bob, I now that I changed the rear pads within the last 3 months so I hope the rotor is not grooved. I'm thinking it could be parking break assembly or something. thanks for the reply. fitzy67

Yea also check the E brake shoes in that left rear as they have been known for problems like your describing.

If the click is heard ever other rotation of the wheel then the wheel bearing has a flat spot. If it's every rotation of the wheel then it's probably something in the brake.

Thanks, I have actually noticed that it sounds like it is everyother rotation so I will check the wheel bearing also while checking the E brake. Thanks for the input. fitzy67

Just to explain a bit further, a wheel bearing makes one complete revolution for every two revolutions of the wheel. That's why you'll only hear the click once every two tire rotations.

I actually got the rotor off and when I did the Ebrake pads fell right off. I have a strong suspicion that this was the prob. thanks for all the help.
