Has anyone ever been able to replace the light bulbs in their cruise control switches? The dealer does not show a separate bulb from the switch, so the only way to replace the bulb through them is to replace the entire switch. I hate to spend $60 to replace both switches when all I need are $2.00 worth of bulbs.
Sounds like you guys need to figure how to take the switch apart and replace the bulbs with LED's. Looks like a bad design from Ford, now try to get them to admit it.
I have recently found replacement bulbs for the Cruise Control Lights on my 95' Explorer. They are available at of all places, Porsche.
Two years ago, disassembled the cruise control switches and found that the bulbs are socketed and can be replaced, however as was said earlier, Ford does not have a part number for these. So I ended up buying the very expensive new replacement switches.
However I recently removed the instrument cluster on my 1990 Porsche 928 and found the same low wattage bulbs. Later, I'll post the Porsche part number and approximate cost.
You'll still need to remove the rubber filter and re-use it with the replacement bulb. On my car the lights are blue, so the filter is made of blue rubber or vinyl.
OK, I looked it up. Here's the exact replacement bulb:
Description: 12 volt, 1.2W Instrument Bulb
Porsche Part Number: 900.631.132.90
Approx. Cost: $1.00 each
You'll be able to brag to your friends now that your truck has "genuine" Porsche parts! It's been awhile since I took mine apart, so I forget how many bulbs you'll need.
Yes, you need to remove the airbag, but it's still easier than replacing a light in the instrument cluster.
Make sure you disconnect the battery, like with a non-airbag car. This also keeps the horn from going off. Allow 20 minutes after disconnecting the battery ground, time for the airbag exciter to discharge before disconnecting the airbag. Excersie the airbag precautions presented in the factory shop manual.
