Cruise control issue

Hi Folks,
Been a long time since I have visited the forums, hope I'm still welcome.
For a year now I have had issues with the cruise control on my '96 full size Bronco with a 5.8l. I have done the following: replaced the brake pedal switch with one from my '94 Bronco with a working cruise control, replaced the clockspring twice (New OEM), replaced the speed control module under the hood with a used but said to be working unit, pulled every fuse that may be associated with brakes and speed control, cleaned fuses and contacts, replaced the steering wheel switches, replace the master cylinder pressure switch twice, replaced the 3rd tail light bulb, pulled all junction connections even if I did not know if it went to the cruise or not and cleaned with contact cleaner, checked the non-serviceable fuse that Ford added to combat the fire issue at the master cylinder pressure switch, whew. Disconnected the Ford jumper to combat the fire issue and connected it the original way. Okay the symptoms as of now. I can engage the cruise, and it seems to hold for 2 seconds and then drop out. What do I try next?

Hi Kemicalburns,
Yes, stock tires. Doesn't seem to be any issue with the TPS, no skipping or stalling during acceleration. Starts well each time, 184,000 miles. I have not taken it anywhere to have the codes checked. I keep arguing with myself as to whether to buy one of the code checkers that are sold at auto parts stores. Thoughts?
