Hey. where can I look to get a pickup under $1000? I'm 15 so it'll be my first car and I don't want anything but a truck. I would prefer a ford but I could settle for dodge, chevy or gmc. Thanks.
where are you at ?? might be important so someone near you might be able to tell ya bout one ..............if ya were in illinois i've been off again on again bout this'n for a long time , and 1000 is what i was wanting , but more work than yer typical 15 year old probably would want ...........
I'm in maryland. I don't have $1000 yet (couldn't get a job this summer because of a badly broken hand). There is a chance I could get my grandfathers truck but theres no guarantee on that so I just want to know my other options. I'm not really looking for specific trucks so much as maybe websites/dealers that I could get them from.
craigs list and the local classifieds are generally the best that you can do. FTE classifieds are probably good too, you just have to look for someone in your area.
Try to get someone pretty good mechanically to help you look. In your price range, brand isn't as important as condition.
Your truck may need some work -- that's OK if it's work that you can handle.
Stay on the bus, bum rides, study, get a job, study, go to college or trade school, study, get a better job, graduate, get a job, get a better job, by something that you won't waste your time & treasure on and that won't distract you from job one, which is to study, graduate, etc.
$1000 truck, just burn the $1000 as how you gonna make them $80 fillups every week?
Stick with your plan if that is what you want to do. Don't let people put you down. You may be surprised what you can get for $1k by looking and shopping around.
Someone could have a nice truck they just want to find a good home for and let it go cheap to help a young fellow out.
Many years ago I bought my first car at the age of 15, a 1954 Plymouth. It didn't run and needed a lot of work so I got it for $5. The junkyard was paying good money for junkers, but they had to be running and you had to be able to drive them in to get the top dollar $15.

the chicago craigslist includes
a 94 150 for 1500
a isuzu amigo for 500
a 77 chevy 4x4 for 790
a 92 ranger for 800
a 95 f150 for 1500
a 89 broinco for 900

welp 79 it could be might be . i bought / traded for it with the intentions of making a wrecker out of it like my grandfather had years ago . that didnt pan out . as of late i was given a pos 61 or 62 f-350 that is essentially a frame , driveline and suspension. so if i dont sell it the current plan is to swap the 60's rear diff in , its abolt in , then a freind at a machine shop is gonna mill a 10th of an inch off the inside of each 60's spindle where the king pin goes through to fit the 49 axle , and put bushings in the king pin holes themselves to make up the difference in the sizes { 49 larger , 60's smaller }. i am gonna lose the dump bed as it is crap , really rotted , but the truck isnt !!. lose the hydraulics and pto . put a regular flat bed on it . then probably swap the 8rt flatty v-8 for one of my fe's and hoard the flatty away in the garage .the suspension swap gives me three important things ; better brakes you can still find parts for and they are drums still to keep the " character " , better gearing as to what im told the ol girl has on steep set of gears in her , top speed of roughly 40-45 wide open , and get rid of the widowmaker rims for something a lil' more common 'round here . that is if i keep it . the 53 has got me plenty busy so ............................
If money were an issue in a purchase, especially trying to keep it under $1000, the last thing I would be buying these days is a truck unless it was needed for work, to haul stuff, etc. I'd stick with a small car for the fuel economy if I were you, or a small pickup with a 4 cylinder. Horsepower costs you one way or another....
