Well, I have gone about 60 to 70 miles without any problems at all. The truck absolutely runs better than it ever has. I am still sceptical just because of not finding the smoking gun. I did pull and twist on every wiring harness from bumper to bumper and it is still possible that there could have been a wire rubing metal somewhere that I have pulled away for the time being (I am hoping that is not the case).
If it is fixed, then this is what probably happended: 1. The tps I bought for $42 at Advance auto parts about six months ago took a crap about four months ago and started the shifting problem. I did nothing at the time because it still ran decent and I did not drive it much anyway. 2. The failing tps shorted out some how and fried the computer. 3. I replaced the computer but was showing a tps hard fault (998, 122). 4. I replaced the tps with the most expensive one at NAPA but it was bad out of the box so I kept getting code 122. 5. Finally after checking every harness on the truck and finding nothing wrong I put on a new tps from NAPA that is actually an OE part. I not longer get any 998 or 122 codes and the truck runs flawlessly!
I still have all my tools in the cab of the truck along with my cell phone .
I had been away a couple days and just realized I wasn't seeing your thread.
Good work Will, I hope your troubles are over.
I was watching a show on the idiot box the other night and they where talking about copper "whiskers".
A serious problem with all electronics. As they age these microscopic "whiskers" extend out in every direction on the printed board, they can and do short them out. That could be what fried your original computer?
Anyway great job, try and stop in with a update if you can. "Good" or "bad", but sure sounds like the TPS was the problem. Well that is after the computer fried on ya.
I have put about 120 miles on it without any problems. I just runs so much better than before. I don't think my first tps was ever right from the start. I do know now, that there are some sensors that I will be buying an OE part and not that parts store junk. I will chime in after I have put a few hundred miles on it (with gas prices so high, that may be a while!)
