pulled out of the store in a hurry to beat the dodge coming down the road, stood on the throttle, spinnin tires, crazy whistle, smoke all over, then....... POP, sounded like a shotgun, and no boost. I had never read about that on here and thought i blew the turbo or something. well as 99% of you im sure know, it was just the boot on the IC pipe. wife was with me and for a minute i was hoping it was a blown turbo becasue she started talking upgrade, but im just glad its nothing major. damn near crapped my pants when the noise came, sounded like a freekin shotgun. all is well now though.
wife was with me and for a minute i was hoping it was a blown turbo becasue she started talking upgrade,------------You realy dont want a new 08 6.4 PSD,I own an RV park and get to talk with people a lot,my son has an 04 6.0 that he has himself taken the EGR out and cleaned 4 time's in less than 50,000 mile's,one of our camper's has an 08 F450 4:30's kingranch 4 door dullie,empty he get's 10.5 MPG, towing his 36 FT 5'th wheel he get's 6 MPG on a good day and the 6.4's have (2) EGR valeve's,go here for more info, http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articles/, and here also for the EGR article, FDDTS - 6.0L EGR Valve Cleaning ,when the EGR get's dirty and hang's up and it take's the EGR cooler out,overheat's & causes it to leak, and if your sleeping at the switch heat's the motor up and you lose the head gasket's,your 7.3 has 6 bolt's per cyl,the 6.0 & 6.4 have only 4 bolt's per CYL, keep the 7.3!!!!!.
You may have your son check out our 6.0 section, to see how to eliminate his EGR, so he doesnt have to clean it again!

nah, ill keep the 7.3, i was thinking upgrading the turbo, thats it. i have friends with 6.0's and the 6.4's, they are all jealous of my 7.3. mines been in the shop once in a few years, theirs are in 3-4 or more times a year. ill keep the 7.3. i wanted to milk it but she was right next to me when i called my guy who knows about this stuff, she heard it all. if she didnt, id have a new turbo on the way right now. no biggie, after my lift wheels and tires this winter, shes told me injectors and turbo are next year anyway.

Another thing, if (hopefully not) a headgasket needs replaced, ask them if while they are doing it, they will install headstuds that youd have to provide. From what Ive seen, alot of dealers dont seem to mind that. And you shouldnt ever have to get headgasket work again. Sorry for the
