Well, here's hoping, but from various articles I've read, it's pretty much early days.
They don't really seem to have a handle on the efficiency of this process, which would seem to be the key to success.
MIT seems to announce a fair number of 'breakthroughs' -- quite a few of which seem to stay broke. ( Not a scientific fact -- just based on some general impressions )

Not trying to be a downer -- I hope that it works out -- just a bit skeptical.
Any advances in the knowledge we currently have is promising afaic. Eventually they will stumble upon the key to the new, plentiful energy source we crave. Until then, however, there is no viable replacement for oil as of yet.
I agree with you folks and I'm skeptical too but I guess we have to start
somewhere. I'll keep my fingers crossed we'll see something come of this
technology soon as I would like to pursue solar energy for my home. I think Big Oil wants to squash anything that might damage their income. I believe there's a company out there right now working on some sort of new cheap solar panel techology. Can't remember the name of the company.

I disagree. I think 'Big Oil' is more interested in 'Big Energy' than people give them credit for. I also believe they would gladly fund research into a viable alternative. After all, they've got the money to spend and the incentive is bigger profits if they come up with the ultimate energy source. (BTW, 401k's would also profit from this research)
