Should I buy it.....

Need a occasional truck/tow rig. I found a 2000 f250 crew cab 4x4 lariat with v10. It has 98000 miles, nerf bars, spray in liner, hide a way gooseneck hitch, airbags in rear. Guy wants 9k for it. Think I could get 200k out of it with occasional use. Had been looking a psd, but no more than I need it for and the price of diesel I am thinking this would work perfect.

Yall have them, what do you think?

Thanks in advance...

Well first off, you should get more than 200k out of it. It sounds like a nice truck, but I think the $9k price mite be a little high. Have you checked NADA and Kelly Blue Book to compare the price? It's been a while since I priced out trucks, but I know with gas prices like they are, people are getting some great deals on them.

What are you planning on towing? Do you know the gear ratios on this truck? If you're towing a heavy load (>10k#) you'd do good to have the 4.30 or lower (higher number) gears. I don't recall the specs right off hand, but I think the 4.30s will give you somewhere around a 12k towing rate. I'm sure others will chime in with more knowledge than I.

THe V10 is a tried and true engine, with comparable power to a PSD. With the upfront price of the PSD and the higher price of diesel, the v10 is definately an excellant choice. Treat it right and perform good maintainance and there is no reason it cannot go 300k miles. My 01 just rolled 147k and is still going strong.

Try to get the maintenence records if you can. With the gooseneck in it the truck has been used to pull with. With proper maintenence it should be a great truck. Price sounds a little high to me also.

i just picked up a 99 f250 supercab lariat v10 w/new 8ft meyers plow for 5500... the deals are out there if you look. mine had a motor noise (which went away after driving it some and a can of SEAFOAM in the oil) truck has 104k miles. if you do buy it plan on giving it a full tune up plugs x10 air and fuel filters, 02 sensors, pcv valve etc... with the hidden gooseneck, expect it to have towed a heavy trailer. definitly test drive it and get on it to make sure the tranny is shifting properly. also pull the tranny dipstick and look at the fluid and smell it to see if its burnt or not.
not sure where your from but there is a crew cab PSD at a dealers lot down the road from me for 9995... if you really had ur heart set on the diesel. its in waterbury CT
