I used a 3" DWV-PVC coupling to install mine. I used a die grinder to knock off a little bur on the outside of the coupling and the ridge on the inside of it. Fit great, no problems. Here is a pic of the filter with Pete's cover on it.

I clamped mine right to the filter(no pipe) and so far no problems. I roughed up the filter with sandpaper to give the stock boot a little more gription on the filter, and then put a bead of black silicone(outside not inside) around the end of the stock air boot for a little more holding power and to use as a gauge for movement. It did take some patience to squeeze the stock boot over the filter though.

This is it with the OEM clamp and about 6000 miles on what's now my 4th filter since the installation over 2 years ago and it's never moved one iota.

Thanks everyone for the info. I did mine the ol' fashioned way with the 4" section of 4" pipe (ground off the burrs). Something I did to make the filter fit in the tight space a little better was move the battery box toward the front. There is an extra hole in front of the hole the factory mounted the box to. Just thought some people might want to know this, now the filter goes on down in the space where the old air box was easier.

I didn't know that, Mine fits fine the way it is. But you may have something new.

Next time I change my filter I just might check into this. I had to cut my previous filter off the 4" pipe to get it off.
