Starting in Drive?

Just drop in and got my motor running in my 87 f150 again. Strangely enough you can only start it in drive. If you try and start it in park nothing happens.

Any Suggestions?

Could your mlps switch be out of alignment?

Since he has an '87, I bet he has an AOD behind that 5.0, thus, no MLPS. The neutral safety switch could be bad (it's the only electrical part on an AOD, don't confuse it with the speedo cable or the TV control cable), or your shift linkage could be way out of adjustment. The Haynes manual has a good procedure for adjusting the linkage.

Actually I have a C6. It was the neutral safety switch that was bad and the linkage was out of alignment. Got it going now though. Thanks.
