how did the computer work? i would think the 7.3 idi was mechanical and uses no computer like a cummins 12v. (completely new to these trucks im usually in the '80-'86 section) could you use the computer on lets say a carbed 351? just wonderin, its been on my mind
I think he is talking about the computer that controls the E4OD on the 7.3 IDI, the one that only works the transmission.
And maybe using it on a carbed 351...
That was the way I understood it
yes thats what i was talking about, thank you for clearing that up I was a little tipsy that night and i guess it came out confusing. I'm just wondering how the 7.3 IDI would control the e4od without a computer and if its possible (im goin manual for my 351/300swap) to control a e4od with the IDI computer behind the said 351w
The IDI has a computer that only controls the transmission, I'm sure that you would need the computer, all of the wiring and the sensors that it would need to control it.
I would suggest going to a unit that can be controlled like the "Baumannator"...
It sure would be alot easier than tracking down a bunch of old parts and trying to assemble all of it, and make it work.
ok, i was just clearing it up. I'm not interested in fuel injection or the E4OD, but i thought it was weird how the 7.3 idi worked the E4OD. and now i know. thanks guys
