Wtf Is Power

Ive always wondered what power actuallt is. ive always heard torque is not power..so when people say that they are saying that a 300 hp 5.4 is more powerful than the 275 hp 7.3..im a little confused

Horsepower is how fast torque is generated. Torque is the measured quantity, horsepower is the product of torque x rpm / 5252

Essentially torque is the raw power that cau turn the axle, with no regard to time. 300 foot pounds is equivilant to having a 1-foot lever attached to the axle with 300 pounds on it. Horse power defines how much work a system can do over a period of time, or how quickly it can output a certain amount of work.
