I have a 2002 Excursion with the stock 6 disc in dash CD player, my friend has a 2003 F250 with the same system. Both broke around 60K miles. They both wont eject the CD's out and just give an error code.
Do these radios have a history of issues ?
I called the Ford dealership my dad works at and they are going to just send it out to a radio repair shop. I called the Radio shop directly and either way its going to cost me at least $100 to get it fixed. What the radio shop does it charge you $100 to look at it and if they can fix it, they fix it if it cost more then $100 they charge me for anything over that. If after they look at it they say its going to cost a lot I can put the $100 towards an aftermarket radio.
I once had an ejector problem in my 6 disc, I bent up a pair of tweazers to extract the CD that was partially ejected (in the open port, but stuck there). Once I got that CD out, it has worked perfectly for me since.
Is your door (cd port) open with a CD hanging up the works?
I would pass up on fixing up the stock. They are also known for the display to go bad. it would suck to fix the cd slot to have the display go bad in a year. You can get a nice cd player installed for around $100 You can get a cd deck and changer for around $300 installed.
