Im looking to put in a cd player in a 1974 F100. It has the original radio in it now which doesnt work. As of yet I have no idea if the speakers are still good or not.
Just wanting some input on which cd player is cost efficient, will fit into the truck, and has good value to it.

Thanks to any who help.
The original is a two shaft radio, anything you buy now-a-days is going to be DIN, or ISO mount. So you will have to modify the radio panel. There are some Retro dual Shaft CD players that will fit the stock holes, but IMHO they are overpriced and lower quality that what you can buy in the regular aftermarket players.
Me personally I have a Alpine 9856 in my car, and I just went onto ebay and bought a 9856 Body that didn't have the face plate for $30. Seeing I can't drive both vehicles at the same time I just swap the face plate back and fourth.
When I went looking for an aftermarket unit for my '97 F150 I specifically looked for a DVD player that also played burned MP3 discs (CD-/+R, CD-/+RW, DVD-/+R, DVD-/+RW) for one simple reason: you can put 700+ tunes (that's roughly 52 hours of music!!) on one burnable DVD disc in the .mp3 format as opposed to a maximum of about 12-15 songs on a burnable disc in the commercial standard .cda format.
Found the Alpine 9847 (?) (without the LCD monitor - I wasn't interested in watching movies in my truck) fit my requirements to a tee. I have a hard time listening to FM radio anymore because of the damn commercials and yakety-yak from the DJ's and with this unit I can listen to my own tunes. With that many songs on one disc I rarely (if ever) hear the same one twice.
I use my mp3 player almost all the time in my truck. I have 10 gigs of music recorded so its easy to make a long trip without hearing the same song & no ads.I plan to buy a media receiver for my next radio. I like the Pioneer 8200. It has a usb port & a card slot. No more CDs getting ruined in my truck. I'll have a on screen music list & control from the head unit.
