Where do YOU run out??

It really annoys me because my 73 runs out of gas just before the empty line, and I always think I should still have some left. I have the behind the axle tank. The first tcouple time it did it I was quite disgusted.

Just curious to know if my gauge is screwed or if everybody runs out here.

I never have tank complete gone. I say one it was very close to empty but surpise needle was pass E and still go 30 miles.

I don't keep trust those because I drive lot miles so I alway keep tank stay half full which around 8 to 13 gals but rarely full but notice when fill to full gas will overflood.

Just don't trust to those fuel gauge it never work correct for me. Sometime I check miles how many miles per tank.

or keep put 3 to 5 gal everyday? I alway put 6 to 8 gal each 4 days.

I've had my needle past the empty mark and I still went about 10 miles without a problem.

I prefer not to run out of gas so I don't know exactly how far I can make it on E, but it has pointed at E and I can still make it to gas station.

Since I put the white face gauge decals in, I can go a needle past E and still have some left.... which is a great psychological trick, lol.

Mine doesn't work and it's not worth it to me to drop the trank to replace the sending unit. Instead I keep a small notebook in the glovebox and I write down the mileage everytime I fill up. I know about how much I can get out of a tank, so when it starts to get close to that number, I fill up again and fill in the mileage again.

I coast to the side of the road and start walking with the gas can, which is why I don't forget anymore

The gauge in Father's truck only works half the time, sometimes it says E when we just filled it full,We have yet to use the back tank,as we put gas in it once and it all leaked out.
I haven't started 'er since April 17 2008.
Last time we didn't start it for 3 months and my dads daily driver batterys died so we pump the gas and turn the key and it started.
Sorry If I'm off topic.

Mine is pretty much empty when it's right in the middle between 1/4 tank and E. Similar to Ben, when it's full it goes way past full. I also agree--just know your truck. Those little quirks give it personality. Part of the fun and experience of having a 30 year old machine.
