Hey guys, I just purchased an 01 F-250. the only problem i can find so far is the door locks. They act like they want to work(i can hear them clicking) but neither the door lock/unlock button nor the keyless entry button. anyone have any ideas?
The imfamous power door lock problem. and/or the door ajar light doesn't go off. I took mine to a F dealer. Replace the instrucment cluster-$700. Door ajar light went off and everything worked-for a while. Dr ajar came back on took it back to the F'n dealer said it was the GEM module. cost$700 ,seems like everything is $700.
Also, you may experience the autolight clicking when it's trying to work at night and the dome light will time out instead of swithching off when it's supposed to.
Try the wd-40 but I can tell you fm my experience it's most likely the GEM module. If you can find one at a reasonable price let me know..
My '02 was acting strange when I first bought it (used). I thought my GEM or whatever it's called under the dash was going south because the relays were chattering - all the time. Had the dealer look at it and they quoted me something like $700 for a new module. I took a pass on that. Come to find out, it was weak batteries. Hadn't had a problem since but have read some funky stuff go on when that module goes belly up. Fingers crossed here.
I wonder if ANYONE's locks have not failed. I did the aforementioned fix two years ago and it still works. When we were looking for our truck, we found numerous trucks we could get in when the dealership was closed - they obviously thought the trucks were locked.
I've made the change from aluminum foil to tin-snipping a penny to a rectangular shape the same size as the original thermister. Shine it up well first to insure a good connection.
while i don't knock the foil fix to the factory actuators, I still do not understand why you guys go through the trouble. they are a PITA to get to.
I got a set of 4 aftermarket ones for $20. Installed them in an easy to get to place, in series, and wired them in with the factory ones. My door locks are very strong (been ~3 years now) and if one ever fails, it will be very, very, very, easy to replace.
