I have an old LX288 John Deere.. and my hood is broken. Right now i have it taped together till i find a appropriate fix.
I figure i got 2 options to fix it-
1. A crap load of JB weld spread over the cracks, or
2. fiberglass over entire hood.
But my main concern is the JB weld/Fiberglass sticking to the plastic.. even if i roughen it up alot. I would rather fiberglass it that way it would strengthen the whole hood.. instead of just the current cracks, like JB weld would.
Ask you local auto paint shop (not chain store, real paint shop!) what adhesive to use to bond it. Bring the hood, as it will (probably) have a symbol somewhere underneath indicating plastic type. Plastic welding is also an option, and easy to do.
Fiberglass and JB would be a waste of time, and make proper repairs much more difficult. Don't use them.
"Yeah i read somewhere that you could basically "weld" the plastic back together with a old sodering iron, is that what your talking about?"
Similar, but I suggest checking with the auto paint store for adhesive options. A heat-gun -style plastic welder works well tool. You can try the soldering iron, but get plastic welding rod and do some web searching for the (easily available) info.
