I'm going to be taking my truck in this friday for the brake hose recall, but I'm also going to have them look at my A/C system for the 3rd time. The first time was when it was brand new, it didn't have a full charge, the second (which was in May) the charge was low and they found the hose on the low side I believe to be leaking, so they replaced it and recharged it. And now not 3 months later the air coming out of the vents will barely get down to 60 degrees in 90 degree weather.
My warranty is up in approx. 5,000 miles, is there anything anyone could think of that I should be sure to ask when I take it in. I don't think I should be having an issue still.
have them put some dye into the system, then recharge it again..... then drive for a few days using the system. they can use a leak detector UV light, and you will find your leak real fast. im not sure what style compressor these trucks have, but the shaft seals are a common leak point.
They have put dye in it the both times its been in, I'm sure it will be easy to find where the leak is coming from, I just hope they find somthing wrong and fix it really. If they tell me all is normal I may become upset.... Also this is with it on MAX cool. Its acting the same as it did when I took it in last time, when driving in the city the air will come out at approx. 60-70, then cool as you drive getting into the upper 50's. When they fixed it las time it was consistently in the lower 50's upper 40's in town, and driving highway it would consitently be at 46-48 degrees.
Have you tried taking your truck to a different dealership? They are independly owned and operated. I have noticed that it is getting increasingly harder to find a GOOD service department at a Ford dealership these days.
Well, got my truck back, They did the recall with no problems. Checked the A/C and said nothing was wrong, that the air was blowing cold to 46F, said that my temp probe I was using was showing 60F when there's showed 46F. I took the truck figuring ok maybe mine isn't reading right its probably over 10 yrs old. So I left got my digital Fluke meter with the temp probe, I had some things to do and was going to be driving in town and on the Hwy.
The first 15 min. it was blowing cold, down to 40F at one point. I parked the truck to run an eron, got back in and was driving for probably the next 30-45 minutes and it would'nt pull it down past 54F, at one point it got up to 70F. This was running on the Hwy at 70 mph MAX A/C fan on high. Turned it off and on a couple times, adjusted the air temp from cool to hot and back. Nothing made a difference. And the temp was never constant for more than 2-3 seconds.
When I got home I was heated called the dealership was hung up on twice, finally talked to the service advisor, he said he was with the two different techs that checked it. And that he wouldn't make up a number and tell me it was ok, and that he wanted to set up a time so I could go and see them check it. Now I believe they checked the air temp. as it was extremely cold at one point, but I don't think they road tested it as he said they checked it in the back at the techs station, or checked anything else. I believe there is somthing definitly wrong, but not sure if I should give them another chance or go to a different dealership. They are a large dealership and I've had very good luck with them in the past.
I had my truck in earlier this month for a similar problem, the air would only blow out cold for a few minutes then hot and cold air then just luke warm.... turned out to be an bad O ring on the compressor assembly took them a day to rip it apart and replace the O ring but it blows cold now
