In my job I get the chance occasionally to go to museums all over the country and always enjoy the experience, I recently saw the Gilmore collection in Hickory Corner Mi. and highly reccomend it to anyone in the area (20 miles west of Battlecreek) Also I recently saw the Packard collection in Ft. Lauderdale which is also great. I was wonderng if you have any suggestions of good ones to see, please list a name and city if possible so I might see them if I get to that city. I usually find the places by scouring the local yellow pages and hotel literature. Thanks for any help
If you're ever in the Milwaukee, WI area you can check out the Wisconsin Auto Museum in Hartford, about 40 north of Milwaukee. I've never been there, I live about 15 miles away, just never have had a chance to go yet. I've been told it's pretty nice.
Kudo's on the Imperial Pallace in Las Vegas. What a great place. Very varried on their holdings. You can see a couple of D"bergs and also a striped factory bel-air. A nice afternoon!
If you're ever in Maine, there's the Owls Head Transportation Museum on the southern coast. I was there earlier this month for the antique truck and airplane show. Really nice museum!
I just got back from Hickory Corners sunday, (vacation) been to the Gilmore several times and always great. They have a cruise night on wednesdays also. The Henry Ford museum in Dearborn is a must see. They currently have a section on the 100th aniversary of the model T. They disassemble and reassemble a T every day. Museum patrons get to help on the reassembly ( I helped bolt the body to the frame). Greenfield village is next to the museum, and while it's not car oriented, you can take a ride around the grounds in a T.
#1 for Ford buffs: The Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI
National Auto Museum in Reno, Nevada. All these cars (roughly 300) were originally part of Harrah's Auto Collection.
Towe Ford Museum in Sacramento, CA.
Petersen Auto Museum in Los Angeles, CA.
San Diego Auto Museum in Balboa Park. Across the street is the Air & Space Museum which is housed in the former Ford Rotunda Building erected for the 1935 Pan American International Exposition. There aren't too many of those Rotunda Buildings left.
There's an excellent Auto Museum in Luray VA, can't recall the name.
Of those mention so far I've seen the Owl's Head and Henry Ford , all great, thanks and keep'em coming, I am making a list of all to see when ever I get close enough, Thanks
