Trying to Stall

1998 F150 4.6 104,000 miles. Just recently, when going slow or ideling along. For example, I was ideling down a farm access rode watching the deer when my truck keeps ideling real low and almost stalling. It seems to do it alot when I am holding my brake and inching ahead.

It just started this and the check engine light is not on.

Any ideas what I should be looking at? Any help would be greatly appreciated

At over 100K miles, if you've never had the plugs, coils-on-plugs, or fuel injectors cleaned, those might be suspect.

The IAC valve is going bad. Replace it with a new one as amny before you have tried cleaning it which works for a while but the problem always comes back in a short time. Good luck!

My guess would be a vacuum leak, the hose at the back of the TB is usually the first to go. Spray some TB cleaner back there and if the idle rises you found the problem.

You guys have any idea what a IAC Valve will cost? Do you have to go to the dealer to get one or will AutoZone sell one?

Anyone Know weather you have to go to the dealership tp get an IAC Valve? Is there anyway that I can check to make sure that this is the culprit before shelling out the cash? If I do have to purchase from the stealership, how bad are they going to rob me?

Help me out guys

You can get one either at the dealer or Autozone. There are a couple of site sponsors that are dealers that will discount Ford parts. Try FTEPartsGuy or DirectFordParts. Look under fuel system - fuel induction - fuel injection - idle speed control. About $73 for the genuine replacement part. Good luck!

My truck also does this (especially when manuvering in a parking lot). I replaced my IAC first thing and it didn't help one bit ($62 at dealership). New plugs, wires, air filter....nothing helped. My truck DOES need a new fuel filter, which is laying in my floorboard, but I would suspect a vaccum line as next on the list...

check the pcv valve hose assembly

the rubber 90 at the back of the intake tends to dryrot

locate the pcv on the passenger side of the engine and follow the plastic tube up around the back of the engine
