Question Need help diagnosing injection system

I purchased my 01 Ford with 450,000 km's. I don't know if any injection work has been done to it. Last winter I think I had water in my fuel because the fuel system seemed to freeze up and left me stranded or limping home wondering if I was going to make it. After thawing in a heated garage, adding deicing fuel conditioner, and changing the fuel filter it ran better. I had to do this a number of times before the problem completely subsided.

Lately a number of people have commented how choppy the truck sounds(I am running a straight pipe and I don't know if a straight pipe will normaly make it sound extremely choppy or not). The thing that piequed my curiosity is that both my mother and neighbor made comment that the truck at different times sounds rougher(awful) than other times. My mom said that "as I drove past it sounded kind of boggy, not like you(meaning me) want it to sound". I can't say I have particularly noticed but they are getting the sound full volume and I have a cab to insulate me from some of the sound. I have previously had the high pressure oil pressure too high/low code. I recently added fuel conditioner and I thought I noticed it smooth out a bit but after that tank of fuel it has slowly returned to how it ran before.

Are these symptoms indicitive of possible injection system concern? How can I check the health of the fuel injection system?

In addition to what Ron just said, remove the valve covers and make sure that all the connections are fully secured.
Retorque the injectors to 120 inch pounds.
Retorque the rocker arm pedastals to 20 foot pounds.
Sorry I don't know how to convert to Newton meters, but those are the values.
If that doesn't do it, then you may be looking at some injector replacements.
That is a long time for those to go without any sort of servicing. There is a poppit valve inside the injector that wears out and then they won't fire, or will be very lazy about doing thier job.

I can't say enough good things about this. I re-torqued mine about 1,000 miles ago. My wife made the comment it sounded like I've got a new engine under the hood. My torque wrenches have ft lbs & NM listed on them. Maybe yours will too.

Sounds to me like you need to get your fuel from another station just for starters.

thanks Robin. Right after I found this link it reminded me to head to Sears to get a few replacement ratchets and I have always wanted to get an inch pound wrench. Got back to my desk and found the calculator didn't work. Here's a new one that does...

The other one worked for me but I'm saving this link as well. It's better and easier.
