Right now im in the middle of a whole front end swap...As I posted in an older post...I discovered I likely have a Mercury Car steering column...not confirmed...Garbz thought it might be a chevy column. So, im on the look out for a new column...what im doing now is putting in a Saginaw Power steering box along with the front beams and brakes from a 75. My truck is an AUTO trans, but I dont want the column Shift, going with a Lokar floor shifter.
I found a couple early 70s F250 Manual with the column I like, but dont know if the columns are the same. are they? There was also a 78 or 79 that was a tilt column manual. I cant remember if it had the ignition on the column or not. but I hear that those are more difficult to wire and install.... and personally I like the way a straight shaft looks better. more "stock" appearing. Will those fit? or will I need to find a f100 f150??
May I try once more to splain it. The geometry is the same from 65 to 79 on the F100, F250, 2wd and I believe 67-79 F350.
The difference is the Saginaw gear has the fluid connections on the firewall side of the gear. This adds about 2 1/3" inches to the gear that must be taken out of the column. The total length is the same on all the connect point is shifted toward the firewall.
Does not matter if it is column shift or floor shift.
|--------|from here to here is same |-------X-| non power |-----x---|power.
The tilt wiring probably has the hazzard switch in it but that is no biggie to deal with. I figured it out in about an hours time, you can too.
lol. Thanks, Yeah I knew the f100s would fit...I was not sure however about the f250.
Forgive me I grew up a chevy guy. dont shoot! at least I got wiser as I got older.
