Steering columns with GM subframes?
Steering columns with GM subframes?
I have been working on my 56 Ford some and was looking at the steering column. I don't like it. Its a late 70's GM tilt column. The truck has a 74 Cutlass front clip and a C6 (brain is acting up, it my be a C4). I would like to see what other guys used on their F100's that are GM clipped using column stift to a Ford transmission. Right now, Im looking at a 68ish GM column thats at least thinner, but would like to go to a Ford and run a Ford steering wheel.

For years I used 80's GM G-body steering columns. (Malibu, El Camino, mid sized Buicks, ect) The are the right length, tilt, some don't have shifters, plus the have the ignition, wiper, cruise, turn and hi beam all on the column. I beleive all had the standard double D shaft. They do have a plastic sleeve below the shifter that has to be trimmed back so the column drop will work. Ididit used to sell a special column drop for these columns with the cutout for the ign switch rod. One thing for sure, the steering on the GM clips is the easiest of all to hook up.
