My 360 in my 68 f250 is getting very tired and has very bad oil pressure I do not have the money to get a reman engine for it and I have been looking for a 360 or 390 I found this today on craigslist Ford 352 FE V8 Engine - Ready to go.
I do not know much about the 352's Are they a good engine? or should I hold out for a 390.
also is it cheaper to rebuild or get a reman engine like from napa?
in my personal experiance i scap evey 360 i find to me they belong in the same group as a 351/400m but a 352 now was/is a good one even better if it was a t-brid engine
Looks like a rattle can rebuild to me. There is NOTHING wrong with the 360. I have had many of 'em and not ONE has ever given me trouble. Check to see how much rings/bearings,oil pump, gaskets, and timing set will cost and refresh YOUR engine. It's not very difficult at all. There are many people here that will chime in to help. How long has that 360 lasted? They're not hot rod engines, but they do just fine in trucks. JMO.
Good Luck

I have years earlier pulled quite a few 360's and replaced with 390's, more bang for the buck. The 360's here did not fair well when pulling trailers and such, runout cam bearings, cracked pistons, ect. Did have a 352 in a 66 f-100 years back that I thought was bullet proof, I did kill it in the end but it took a lot of punishment. With that said I would want to know something more about the 352 before buying, it seems to me like every time I find a really good deal it turns out to be a really bad deal. If trying to save money I would crack down the 360 you have and at least check it out as I dont think you can use it for a core on the other engine anyway. Here a good 390 is as rare as chicken teeth. Good Luck

I just replaced my 390 a year ago....if I recall correctly the price is almost the same for the 360 and the 390...as for reman vs. rebuild I found the prices to be just about the same either way....though, if you are installing it yourself, there may be some differences...I did my pricing having the shops do the pull/install.
For Remanufactured Engines, I was warned by several folks to stay clear of NAPA...and then a few said that was the place to go.....I eventually went with a "Jasper" engine...and am VERY satisfied with it....
Stay FAR AWAY from S & S engines...out of Washington State, I think....they are less expensive..but the one they sent me didn't even have the main bearings fully torqued..and there was twice as much end play as there should have been.

The last T-Bird to use a 352 engine was in 1960.
From 1958 thru 1964 the FE engines will not work in 1965 and later F100/350's, because the block is different.
1958/64: There's only two engine mount bolt holes in the block.
"in my personal experiance i scap evey 360 i find to me they belong in the same group as a 351/400m but a 352 now was/is a good one even better if it was a t-brid engine"..... Uhh the 360 is the exact same block as a 390, Same heads and other stuff difference is in crank rods and pistons to give it a 3.78 stroke verses the 360 3.50 stroke. All a 360 needs is a 390 crank kit and a car spec cam to really liven it up....
A 360 is easy to rebuiild into a 390. Just order a 390 crank kit.
Same bore in the 360 as the 390...
I have the stock two barrell 360 in my 69 High Boy Crew Cab and it has suprised me more than once with the avalible power. It is not a slouch and would be down right fun with an added four barrell intake and carb.

Don't be concerned about oil pressure, just make sure there is oil on the stick. As long as it aint smoking like a train, keep driving it. IMHO
Oil pressure sending units in those trucks and even gauges for several reasons wasn't all that great or trustworthy, I wouldn't condemn the engine for oil pressure concerns until I hooked up a mechanical gauge and retested.
