i was doing an oil pressure test and happened to notice some rust issues.
On the front of the frame, where the crumple zone meets the perpendicular support, its shot. Both sides are rotted out. I find it very alarming, i think this is what supports the front clip. Has anyone had this problem, and is there a way to repair it. The truck has little rust elsewhere.
Cut the frame tips off just back beyond the rust and weld on replacements, not a difficult job at all. If you have little to no welding experience get it all ready and have some that has experience weld it for you.
Myself I'd go back in with F-250 frame tips from a donor truck at the bone yard to do away with that "crumple zone" part, F-250's and heaver do not have that built into them.
I am dismayed at how fast the ford frames turn to chips once it starts. Its what killed my Old Blue. I have a wonderful 89 2wd 133" frame Im getting rid of.
Oh sorry misunderstood what you where saying, yea the radiator support/header/cowl support whatever you want to call it, yea it can be replaced.
They sell them as a "rust repair panel/part" I believe. More menial labor then anything else, lots of bolts to take out and put back in.
It is the radiator support you're talking about right? radiator/fan and so on on the back of it, hood latch, head lights and fenders bolted to it. Its bolted to the frame on both sides with one fairly large bolt on rubber mounts?
