Oh I know that. Even if you were saying it in a mean way (which you never would) it would take a lot to really bother me. I am a pretty easy going guy.
Originally...I wanted a really serious hot rod. Everything modernized, huge engine, everything else modified. Didn't quite work out that way. Donald found me one that was too nice to hack up.
I am just adding to what the truck came out with to begin with. Most of the added stuff was not available back then on the F-100s. Like the power steering I am looking for parts for. It was available on the cars and big trucks...but not the small trucks.
I do not want to go with one of the kits (even if I could afford them). I want to use stock ford parts, so it at least looks original under the hood. Plus with my budget (or lack thereof) that is the only way I can get power steering.
I drive it almost daily...so I might as well be comfortable. The truck seat needs some padding though!!!!! Or...umm...maybe mine does.
If it were parked in the garage most of the year and trailer to events only...I would be more conscious of restoration. Mine is and always will be a driver.
Great attitude as always.....I feel the same way. I had to heavily modify mine as it was really rough when I got it.
I had the Ford power ram assist steering on a 1975 F-100 4x4. I never really liked it much....it was kind of twitchy. And it hung out exposed in front of the axle...not good for a 4x4...lol. But, as you say, it could have been original on your truck and its a far cry from muscleing that big wheel around...
Going down the road it is a non-issue. I really have to hang onto it in tight corners (everywhere around here!).
With my health issues, I am really much weaker than I should be. In parking lots...it is a nightmare for me. I try to not drive it in town a lot. I just really sore from too much tugging on the wheel.
I had the ram assist on a Granada. It was not too bad. Even that was behind the axle. The original stuff in the 50s was as well.
I know with the ram assist on the straight axle it will be weird for a while, perhaps twitchy, perhaps bump steer. I will get used to it. Plus it will help me a lot, so I can drive it even more than I do now.
I would not hijack the thread this much, but she seems to have found the problem already. That is what the site is for.
I know everyone around me keeps helping me with weird issues. Donald even found my truck for me.
Help someone has hijacked my thread, oh never mind it was just those men taking over! (ha ha) On the subject of going dark or light heck for all I care go purple if you like, as long as its Ford tough you can run it with Chevy stuff.
Now I might get somewhat pi**ed off if I saw anything that looked like chevy parts on the body of the truck, that would just be wrong. Also MPO is if your going to put all your money, sweat, tears and cus words into our Ford trucks. THEN DRIVE THEM they were not meant to sit on a trailer to be hauled around, think about it, you spend anywhere between 20-30 thousand on a new car and you do what with it, DRIVE IT. Yes its going to get chipped, scratched and worse case scenario plowed into, but it was a hell of a ride.
Ya'll take care and don't mind me I'm just a girl!
Kathy

Absolutely!!!! Drive them! That is what they were built for.
Well..that and to work on the farm...which I do not own one of.
