i have given up searching for a 7.3 psd "c" class motor home...they are all to expensive and poor quality(camper part)..the one i wanted..a bigfoot is no longer for sale...
so now i am thinking of converting my f-250 s/c psd 4x4 into one...i want to build a custom camper on the back frame..as long as i can go..20+ feet..extent the chassis to accomodate the camper and make it all strong enough to carry a lift like a toy hauler on the back..
has anyone had or heard of this being done?..the chassis extention part?..im taking my truck into a 4x4 specialty shop where ive heard they can do anything tommorow..just to ask questions
You would be better off selling your truck and buying a F-350 cc long box. That way you will have a front axle that can handle the load. You will need heavier springs all the way around and you may need to extend it in the middle not just on the back end.I am sure it could be done but you may find it cheaper to buy one. Not to mention time.
then i loose on my engine thats been flawless and will continue to run like a top till i die..
also the 39k i paid for it 10 years ago...i would get nothing for it now..10k if i was lucky
the rv's i wanted/looking at was 70k. and i want to convert the rv to 4x4 also..
i put half that into my truck and have the 4x4 id be laughing...
this would be a big project but i think its worth it..ill post later what the shop says
You will probably need a dually axle too......Maybe find a donor truck that's been totaled from the front, A good welding/fab shop should be able to do it for you. This is something I would like to tackle...too bad you're too far away.
i dont know about talk to a limo place and see how they extend them. get some good ideas. ive extended wheelbases on heavier trucks before (measure the exact amount from each hole in the frame then drill them out) lots of drill bits and work. but it would be easier to talk to a place that streches limos....
