My Chip

About two weeks ago (before I found this site) i put a EDGE juice w/attitude on my truck. I have noticed that almost everyone here recomends the DP tuner. Is there something bad about the EDGE or is the DP just a lot better. Do I have anything to worry about running w my chip. Thanks Dustin

All I can say is buy a DP and it will speak for itself. There is no better chip out there I guarentee it. Overall performance, economy, and customer service is second to none. Let us know what you think when you get one

the EDGE will not hurt your truck if you keep the EGT's below 1250*...but its only got half the power of the DP...DP's 80 econo tune is twice the 100 HP tune of the EDGE

I have to agree 1000% with you Tim. I have heard the same thing about Tony Wildman though.

I say eBay your "Only Installed Briefly for Testing" EDGE and put the proceeds towards a DP or TW tuner. The difference is astounding.

I have to agree. I don't have the DP-Tuner but I will one day. I have had the Edge w/ Attitude and I thought it was pretty good. That was till I got a custom tune from a guy where I live. I was SHOCKED at the difference it made to my truck...

The edge just tricks your truck into dumping more and more fuel into the engine. If you get the DP (which I recomend) then you will be suprised how much of a difference it will make.

The Dp-Tuner will lock up the TC and throw you back in your seat. it will change the line pressures of the tranny as well as shift points (making it stronger), Fuel pulse width, etc...

So as you can see the Edge is just an EXPENSIVE pice of junk that will cause harm to your Tranny than a DP will. Like I said I don't have a DP but I do have something similar to it... but I know there are several people here that will agree with me.

save the time and get the DP IMO...

Me:
$600 on Edge
$450 on the Tuner I have now
and now I want to get the DP....

Save the time and frustration and just go with the best!

i really dont think the edge is bad but thats another argument. at the same time i would like to say this.. it doesnt matter how much you spend on whoevers favorite brand of tuner. you still run the risk of causing damage to your tranny! or motor for that matter! i noticed the other day someone on here was having trans trouble and he had a dp tuner nothing is gaurenteed not to harm your truck. On the other hand just from sittin around here the way dp tuner handles its business is AMAZING which speaks alot for them. I will prolly end up investing in a dp down the road but at the same time i know the risks....

and if you already have bought a edge, superchips, hypertech whatever you bought just use it or sell it

One of the main differences is that the DP is custom tuned for your truck and driving habits. It is not a generic programmer. Think of it along the lines of your building a garage, you know where how you want to set it up. So do you get involved with the contractors who are building it for you? Or do you just let them build it, wire it, etc, and you just make do with what is there?

Let me clarify..

The custom tunes are a lot SAFER than the Edge... The Edje does not command the TC to lockup on my truck (that's another issue with the PCM on 02s) on 99' it will lockup... So if the TC doesn't lock up it will increase and heat up the fluid and cause the TC to go or the Tranny...

Having a custom tune will lower the heat by commanding the TC to lockup and will also help the tranny by not slipping as much... I love the hard shifts in my truck and feel like I have a damn good tranny...

Nothing is good for the tranny when you start adding chips but you can make it to where it won't hurt it that much... I feel like my tranny will last me a long time...

I think you should cut your losses and sell the Edge then go with a custom Tuned program. You won't regret it!

That's my .02 cents

Wow. I can see this is an often debated topic. Thanks to everyone for the quick responses. I dont know if this is true or not but i have heard that since i already have 150000 miles on the tranny it could be worse to adjust. That it will break down even faster. The trans feels good doesnt seep to slip ect. i just dont want to start breakin stuff ya know. maybe i will see if i can get the EDGE on ebay

Sell it on eBay, use the proceeds to buy a DP tuner. You won't be sorry.

I will guarentee your satisfaction with a DP by saying if you don't like it. . . I'll pay for it!
