i was wondering if anyone knew what motors where available in 1974 for the truck line.i may be getting one, and would like to know what was available.thank you
IIRC, others know for sure, but these were floating around in '74, along with the 400, but I don't think the 400s hit the F series until '77.
Nothing in '74 was much beyond a gutless gashog due to low compression and the feeble smog controls of the day. However, any of these can be made into an acceptable performer with just a small roll of $100s.
Can't track it down other than Wikipedia, they show the 460 in the mix for '74. There was quite a mix of engines back then, the close out of the FE, the 335s gone, W's back--
It don't matter. If he buys a '74, other than the 300 which never got much worse in the smog years and only got a little better later on, all the '74 engines are, by almost any standard and particularly today's standard, poor performers which can be rescued with a few simple parts and rolls of $$$$$....
Sorry, I meant to put the cow-pie disclaimer on the Wiki stuff, but they was right about the 460.... Hey, it was almost 1AM and and and...
I thought I'd seen a couple of factory brochures on the web--I know I found one for Rancheros, but I couldn't find one for F series. As usual, ND to the rescue.
