Finishing up the disc brake conversion on my 64, just ran into a little snag. Fo some reason I can't get the bottom colt to slid into the caliper through the bracket. It works not on the bracket, and even works on the bracket if I do just the bottom, but with the caliper in place I can't get it to go in straight.
Does it make a difference which bolt you insert first? Hard to believe you might have gotten a plate that was not drilled properly. Guess it could happen though. The kit on the 64 I had went on without a hitch. Will it go on with the pads removed?
This is whats weird, It wont go through without the pads on either. But if I put the bottom end up first it WILL go through straight , but you can't pivot it up b/c of the shape of the bracket. Its very strange, if I put the bolt in without the caliper it goes perfectly straight!
THis is doing the bottom first, but like I said it cant pivot up from here
This is the top working fine:
This is with no pads still not working on the bottom:
OK I may be a Dumbxxx but I just have to ask do you have the calipers swapped R and L I mean?? In my experince even though my spindles I've used are different than yours. The Bleeder points up. The Calipers will switch sides they just don't fit right on the wrong side. Just my 2 cents Good Luck
like Kongslibakken said check you don't have them flipped. When I was doing mine the installer had them flipped. Couldn't figure out how to get the brake hoses on, they hit everything in sight. I flipped the calipers and everything bolted right up. BTW I see the guy who flipped them on the install everytime I shave in the morning. Thought I fired him But no, there he is, always copying my every move...
haha yes I did try pushing up, no amount of force will work, but it may be bc they are flipped. I'll check tonight, I don't get to wrk on the truck till about 11pm after work, so there is a good chance.....
If you look carefully at the pictures, you will see that they are on the wrong side. Notice how the bleeder valve is on the bottom. The bleeder should be on the top in order to purge all the air from the system (bubbles rise in brake fluid). It's an easy mistake to make. Switch them around and you will be all set.
