After clocking 200K on my transmission i had it remaned by a Local Builder (well known). After the rebuild i was towing my 29' 5th wheel the trans started squealing like a good date on prom night, and smoking. when i made it home i had it towed back to the shop and was told that i had run it hot !!!! Can anybody tell me where the Dash Temp sending unit is for the 5R110?? the guage never raised above normal temp. Please help becase he is now trying to charge me for towing and a $400. cooler ( Ford only product). i think there will be a small claim court case in my future.
Tks in advance

Reason: spelling
What yr and which model truck do you have? I have an 01 base model and it does not have gauges so I can really screw myself if I'm not careful. I think the guy is trying to blame you but stock gauges are just dummy lights mostly. They will rarely tell you anything until something bad has already happened. Good luck with the guy, don't give up it wasn't your fault he built a heavy duty trans poorly.
It really takes alot to get the stock tranny gauge to move above the normal level. I have an autometer tranny gauge that I have seen climb up to 250* and the stock gauge never moved a bit. In your case, I would be more worried about the damage done to the tranny. If it was squealing and smoking, I'm sure the clutches are pretty cooked. Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome.
Only way to get it that hot is if the converter was slipping, none of this should be your fault, your just driving your truck like you should.
I just rebuilt mine and invested in a billet converter to help with slippage, it works great and is very solid.
The shop should take care of it at no charge. I have a trans shop and thats what I would do! Only thing I feel they could charge for is upgrading to the billet converter or a bigger external cooler.
Also did the check cooler flow? there is a filter inline on mine and there could be a restriction there if it wasn't replaced.
Sorry for leaving some information out, it was late ...... My truck is a 2003 F-250 with the 6.0L and 5-r-110w. The rebuilder ( Colman Taylor Transmission) is suposed to have this 200K machine that flushes the lines and cooler, and detects any restrictions. When the trans was rebuilt there was no "problems" with the system. Now after this on the 3rd trip to the shop they tell me that the filter and cooler are stopped up!!!!!
any advice before i call the lawers would be appreciated.
They should have done a completely system system flush of everything or replaced the cooler when the reman trans was installed. My local trans shop has a 2 year unlimited mileage warrenty on their trans. Sounds like the trans shop screwed up the rebuild. If your previous trans lasted 200k miles I'd say you know how to use your truck right and make a trans last.
Sounds like they took a few short cuts. Either they didn't clean out all the trash from the last trans or they did a poor quality rebuild on the new one.
Did they put in the wrong fluid? Trans shops will try anything to get out of fixing their problem. I had a trans rebuilt and it slipped when I was on a trip, had it towed back and they said I was driving it too hard. They said that I would have to pay to have it rebuilt again, I called my lawyer and he sent them a nice letter. At that point they said well take us to court, so I gave them a 30 day warning than I was going to small claims court and was going to put in a claim for a new trans and money on the side. before the 30 days was up they called me and said that they would redo it at not cost to me. For what it cost me to have it rebuilt I would buy a new one instead of going through that again.
