The HD trucks are aften rated to tow in OD, all of these have towing biased gearing.. not 308's. The basic rule with auto OD trannys is if you are driving at a speed that results in the tranny continuously shifting into and out of OD then select D instead. This is independant of load and could happen completely unloaded when driving around town.
FWIW I have towed in OD with a loaded snowmobile trailer plenty, but in hilly terrain on roads with speed limits below 60mph I select D, the truck just performs better. My truck has 3.55 gears too.

Dan91ford150, with my 90' F150 (see sig) I have towed in OD with a 16' trailer loaded with hay, etc.. with no problems. However, if I encounter any hilly terrain on the road where the speed limit is below 60mph, rather than have the tranny "hunt" I put it in "D" as the truck will maintain it's speed/torque and just overall performs better. My AOD tranny has been modified and I also have a big cooler. Hope this helps.. Good luck!!
