Hey there I'm new to this site, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is wrong with my lights. I haven't had low beams for a week or so and before then if I hit a bump in the road just right the lights would go out, so I've been using my high beams. Last night the high beams were fading in and out so part of the time I didn't have any lights and then they would come back on. This time the lights being on or off had nothing to do with bumps in the road.
Anyone have any knowledge it would be appriciated.
For the low beam problem, I would say it was the dimmer switch. Now with the lights going on and off, check for a loose or bad contact on the wire that is the ground connection for the headlights. If that checks out, replace the headlight switch. It is probably an intermittent connection.
Hey,
I had the same problem, week before last with my low beam on the driver side. Bright lights would work fine on both sides. But dim would only work on passenger side. So I went out and bought a new headlight for driver side. Put it in still no light. Opened the hood, looked / felt for the wires going to the light. Long story / Short,,, I had a bad Plug In (what I called it), that plugs into the terminals on the headlight. Sorta like you'd have a socket for the park lights. Didn't take A minute ta find it. Any way, As soon as I started wiggling it, little, The light would go on / off. Just like in your case hitting a bump, would JARRR it 'round. Went out to Advance, Bought another one (plug In), Replaced it, been workin' every since. Hope this helps, Don't believe its no switches. :*
And I have one I am working on now. No low beams, high beams and marker lights OK. New dimmer switch and new bulbs were tried without success. Wiring harness looks OK and wiggling it around doesn't bring back the lights.
Check the dimmer switch with a voltmeter or a test light. You should see a constant 12v on the input terminal. As you push the switch, the 12v should appear at the high beam connection and then the low. If this is ok , measure at the lamp socket.

Hey everyone thanks for all of your input it was a lot of help....the truck is going in the shop next Thursday to get the dimmer switch replaced. I'll be happy when I can drive at night again.
