I own an '04 f-250 w/50k miles and I have noticed lately that it is not starting very quikly. It seems to crank slowly and seems kinda sluggish for a moment. Once it starts it is fine and if I run it for a while, shut it off and re-start it, it fires right up. I put a new alternator in it about a month ago and two new batteries about 3 months ago. Even if I leave the charger on it all night it acts the same way. Some similar posts mention a starter problem. Could that be the cause?
On a seperate note, I pull a 11,000 lb. bumper pull toy hauler and was wondering if that was a lot of weight. The truck is stock except for turbo back exhaust and it just doesnt seem to have the power pulling the trailer as I would expect from a diesel. Any comments?
It sounds like to me that the new batteries are not performing. A bad alternator can ruin new batteries (since you may have run the new batteries for a few months on a failing alternator). Have you load tested them recently?
No, I havnt load tested them yet. My charger says they are full but I guess it would read different under a load. That would make sense because the problem first started around the time the alternator went out. I will get the batteries load tested and see what happens. Thanks for the idea, though it probably should have been common sense on my part. Sometimes sence isnt that common around here if ya know what i mean!
