Battery Drain Help Please!
Just fought through a Battery Drain problem on my 97 Expy EB. It had been happening for so long, it killed one of the battery cells. (replaced battery) Found a drain to be in Radio, CD Changer, RICP circuit. Does anyone know what is acceptable "power off" drain for stock CD Changer (I had 120 milliamps) Also the Rear Integrated Control Panel on the back of the console (I had 50 milliamps here) So far, I have disconnect both items and now have only 10 milliamp draw after truck "goes to sleep". I would like to know if these amounts seem "normal" both devices seem to work fine? My original "Battery Killing" drain could have been the Alternator, it was replaced before proper troubleshooting. If these drains are excessive please offer suggestions of where to look for replacement CD Changer or how to repair it.. ANY Help is appreciated. Thanks
Figure that your battery when fully charged has a 700 Amp-hour capacity. With a .12 Amp load your battery would be dead after 5800 hours or 240 days. My guess is that your alternator was the problem and if you drive the truck frequently that battery will get charged enough to carry the 120ma leakage load that you are seeing.

You probably check on your options for an aftermarket unit to fit your 97. Technology in 11 years have changed so much and you could if you wanted add GPS, bluetooth, Ipod/MP3, etc. for not much more, if any, to have your old unit replaced. Crutchfield is a place to start your search to give you an idea of costs. Plus you can always remove the new unit before you trade or sell your Expy.
Are you coming to the MidAtlantic meet at the Carlisle All Truck Nationals in August? Sure would like to meet you!
