Turbo whine
I was riding in my friends X this weekend and could hear the nice high pitched turbo whine during acceration and shut down. My X makes a rattling noise on shutdown and I don't hear the whine on acceration.
How can you tell if you have problem with your Turbo

05 EB Ex Diesel <----- that's why. Is your friends a 2003 or early 2004 perhaps?? The turbo's for those years make a very loud turbo whine compared to the later 04's and up. If you get an open intake and exhaust it'll help increase the sound. Got to love the whistle

oh lemme think .... it's got to do with the vanes. They were having issues with some sticking or something and added another vane to the impeller which changed the sound on the newer ones. Someone else might be able to give you a more technical answer.
