Scangauge Question

If anyone has a Scangauge on a diesel 6.0 (2005 if it makes a difference), can you tell me if it can display the engine OIL TEMPERTURE? I see that there is a sensor on the engine.

I've got an email into the company, but obviously I'm not important enough for them to answer the question.

If it's internet updateable, you may have to get a software revision. However, the gauge should be able to display anything the PCM knows.

Alon@ModBargains can probably answer this question for you since he sells the scangauge, just send him a message.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...y-pricing.html

he answered a couple questions on his thread back when he was having intoductory pricing (note: sale is over with).

Well, I did get a quick response: See below!

"I have not used the scangauge on a deisel so I am unsure of the oil temp feature. I looked on the XGauge section on Scangauges website, but was unable to find an answer. (http://scangauge.com/support/pdfs/XGAUGE.pdf) I am sure you will love the scangauge for its other featuers, I especially like mine when towing so I can watch my trans temps."

I too am sure I would love these "other" features, but I was asking about one feature that may or MAY NOT exist. Not buying from them!

I apologize for not knowing the answer to your question, but I can not make up an answer if I do not know. From the research I have done I dont believe you can check the oil temp, but there may be something new since they have updated their site.

If there is anythign else I can help you with please let me know.

On my 2004 I have a Scan gauge II but it dosen't read oil temp or trans temp...I was told from the guy whom I ordered it (who is the supposed programmer) that they would trade mine out for one that was able to read more parameters when that became available...that was 2 years ago...plus mine sometimes has a mind of its own and does weird stuff...they are OK and read some codes but not all codes or parameters...and as you have found out their customer service is all lip service.

These questions are answered on their web site. Click the gauges link and it shows the 12 standard OBDII gauges it supports (oil temp is not one of them). Click the XGauge page and it tells you if the vehicle has a sensor they XGauge can display it. The XGauge feature to setup for custom, manufacturer specific gauges (ie, non-OBDII gauges). Right there in the manual and on their site. They even document how to do it for Ford on their site. The device supports standard/generic OBDII parameters but you can't expect it to read and label the thousands of different manufacturer specific parameters out of the box, which is why it gives you XGauge to program in the manufacturer numbers and label them. They can't tell you if it supports a specific gauge on a specific vehicle because there are hundreds of different models of vehicles each with its own set of sensors it does or does not have and they'd need to access each vehicle model to know.

Best bet is to obtain a list of manufacturer specific parameters and then read the XGauge section of the manual to program it. If the computer has a sensor for it it can display it, just a matter of setting it up.

All in jest dude, but it seemed you couldn't see the forest through the trees.
